Eat Your Colors!

Week 7 Challenge: Go Color Crazy

Food is medicine!

We don’t hesitate for one second to put pills and drugs into our body in order to heal faster.  Yet we don’t take the time to put into our body the foods that actually make us healthier to begin with.  If we did, we wouldn’t need all of these pills and surgeries!

By eating with the intent of incorporating as much of the color spectrum as possible, you know you are getting all of the vital nutrients and antioxidants your body needs for peak performance.  It is typically the brightest fruits and vegetables that will give us the biggest dose of healthy, disease-fighting nutrients. Don’t get stuck in the meat and potato rut!

We have such an amazing variety of fruits and vegetables at our disposal in today’s modern world.  What an incredible time to experiment with different foods and recipes.  For example:

  • Orange: orange peppers, yams, sweet potatoes, carrots, cantaloupe, pumpkin, squash, mango, papaya
  • Red: tomatoes, red peppers, berries, kidney beans
  • Purple: red cabbage, beets, turnips, grapes, rutabagas, radishes, radicchio, black beans
  • Green: kale, chard, spinach, arugula, fresh herbs, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, edamame, avocado.
If you try to work in two different colors at every meal you will be giving your body and amazing gift.

Don’t fall into the trap of using the same vegetables either – move away from just the spinach and red pepper!

Experiment with new vegetables.  Buying seasonal vegetables from your local farmer’s market ensures that you get the most nutrients from the food you buy.  The less distance the food has to travel to reach your plate, the better. Try out different recipes and have fun with it!

Avoid a future full of pills and prescription medication.  Use the amazing healing power of proper nutrition to keep your body healthy and vibrant.
